Mental Health First Aid Training Adelaide

Looking after mental health is as important as treating cuts or broken bones. FACT’s Mental Health First Aid course in Adelaide teaches adults how to offer safe, early support when someone shows signs of mental illness or is facing a crisis. This two-day program is practical, evidence-based, and run by accredited trainers.

What is Mental Health First Aid (Mental Health 1st aid / MHFA)?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an educational course that teaches people how to recognise signs of common mental health problems and how to provide initial help. It is not therapy. Instead, it shows simple, practical steps to support someone until professional help is available.

You will learn about depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance misuse. The course also covers crises like suicidal behaviour, panic attacks, and severe drug effects.

Who should do this course?

This course suits anyone over 18 who wants to help others safely: teachers, childcare staff, managers, first responders, community workers, parents, and friends. It’s especially useful if you want a recognised mental health first aid qualification or to be one of the mental health first aiders at work.

If you already hold a basic first aid ticket, consider strengthening your medical response with a related step like [CPR] for life support skills.

How We Teach — Interactive & Supportive

FACT uses a hands-on approach to help learning stick:

  • Group discussions to share experiences and practice language.
  • Role-plays to rehearse supportive conversations.
  • Case studies that show how to spot signs early.
  • Written checks to confirm key knowledge and steps.
  • Practical guidance on how to refer and follow up.

We keep language simple and the pace steady so everyone can follow. Trainers are experienced and supportive.

Mental Health First Aid Certification & Refresher

On successful completion, you will receive a mental health first aid certification in PDF form emailed to you. This shows you completed the training and may be used by employers and community groups.

To keep skills fresh, FACT recommends the mental health first aid refresher course when suggested by the MHFA program or your workplace policy.

Practical Benefits — Why This Course Matters

  • Early help saves lives. Recognising problems early can lead to faster treatment.
  • Reduce stigma. Knowing what to say makes people more likely to seek help.
  • Workplace readiness. Employers value trained staff who can support wellbeing.
  • Community resilience. More trained people mean safer schools, clubs, and workplaces.

If your workplace faces high-risk incidents, consider linking this learning with Provide Advanced First Aid so teams can handle both mental and complex physical emergencies.
