What You’ll Learn in Your HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Course

You’ll practise proper chest compressions and rescue breaths on adult manikins, learn correct AED (defibrillator) use and pad placement, understand the DRSABCD action plan, and manage cardiac arrest until paramedics arrive.

The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid also teaches you how to control severe bleeding using direct pressure, apply bandages and dressings correctly, manage nosebleeds and minor wounds, and recognise when injuries need hospital care.

Identify signs of shock after injury or medical emergency, position patients correctly, maintain body temperature, and monitor condition while waiting for help.

Manage choking in adults and children, respond to asthma attacks, recognise breathing difficulties, and assist conscious and unconscious patients.

Recognise severe allergic reactions, use adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens), follow ASCIA action plans, and provide ongoing care until an ambulance arrives.

Stabilise broken bones, apply slings and immobilisation techniques, manage sprains and strains, and recognise when to call for help versus managing on-site.

Recognise serious head trauma, maintain spinal alignment, monitor level of consciousness, and avoid moving patients unnecessarily.

Treat burns and scalds, manage heat stroke and hypothermia, apply correct pressure immobilisation for snake bites, and handle other venomous bites and stings.

Why Choose FACT Adelaide for Your HLTAID011 Adelaide Training?

  • Veteran-Led Instruction: Our trainers bring real emergency experience from military, medical, and high-risk backgrounds, teaching you how to respond quickly under pressure.
  • Practical Focus: You’ll practise on manikins, use training equipment, and work through realistic scenarios, helping you build muscle memory.
  • Small Groups: We keep classes small so everyone gets hands-on time, personal feedback on technique, and plenty of time to familiarise themselves with equipment.
  • Same-Day Certification: Complete your HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course in the morning and receive your Statement of Attainment via email before the day ends.
  • Central Adelaide Location: Our training room at 34 South Tce is the same site where we deliver our first aid and CPR course – accessible by public transport and close to the CBD.

Build Your Safety Skillset

Your HLTAID011 first aid course works well alongside other qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support Course: Annual CPR refresher to keep skills current, and can be bundled with allergy response or asthma management
  • Childcare First Aid Course: Paediatric-specific training for education settings

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid FAQs

Your HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate is valid for three years from the date of issue. However, the CPR component (HLTAID009) must be renewed annually to stay compliant with most workplace requirements. We recommend booking your CPR refresher 11 months after completing your initial HLTAID011 first aid course. Many employers also prefer full first aid renewal every two years rather than three, so check your specific workplace policy.

  • HLTAID009: CPR only, focused on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED use.
  • HLTAID010: Basic emergency life support, covering CPR plus immediate life-threatening conditions like severe bleeding and shock.
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid: Includes CPR, emergency life support, plus management of injuries, medical conditions, fractures, burns, and bites.

If you’re unsure which one your workplace needs, ask for the specific unit code.

Yes. We offer blended learning for the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course, where you complete theory components online at your own pace before attending the practical assessment session.

The online portion covers knowledge like DRSABCD, legal responsibilities, and recognising emergencies – typically 2-3 hours of reading and videos. The face-to-face component remains 3.5 hours and focuses entirely on practical skills: CPR technique, bandaging, using AEDs, managing choking, and demonstrating competency.

You can’t complete the entire HLTAID011 Adelaide program online because hands-on assessment is mandatory under national training standards. The blended option suits individuals with busy schedules who require flexibility for theory but still want high-quality practical training.

Bring a valid photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, or proof-of-age card) – we need this to issue your Statement of Attainment. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, as you’ll be kneeling and practising chest compressions. Enclosed shoes are required for safety.

We provide all training equipment, including manikins, bandages, training EpiPens, and AEDs.

  • Arrivals after 8:30 am cannot attend that day’s session. This is due to staying compliant with national training requirements, which involves delivering the full course’s duration in order to issue your HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Statement of Attainment. If you arrive late, we’d be cutting training time, which means you wouldn’t meet competency standards.

We recommend arriving between 8:00-8:15 am to complete any enrolment paperwork and start on time at 8:30 am. If you’re running late, call us immediately at (08) 7226 5936.
