First Aid
Students are required to be competent in written and spoken English and must declare that they have the Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills required prior to booking. The course is an entry-level course, aimed at level 2-3 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (
Certificate 2-3 level). There is a requirement to be able to read, understand and explain first aid terminology, provide first aid in accordance with the Guidelines from the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC), codes of practice, policies and procedures, etc. There is a basic level of numeracy required for calculating the ratio of compressions and breaths, identifying and recognising numbers. There is a large amount of theory covered online using the Learner Guide and PowerPoint presentation, ARC Guidelines, legislation, etc. provided. This requires the student to be able to read and understand information that can at times be complex so that I can be later relied upon for practical implementation. The student's ability to memorise all of this information is not required for this purpose, they just need to be able to recall and read what is sometimes complex information. The LLN requirements of this course do not exceed those of a standard workplace or community setting for a person providing first aid.
